The settlement of Jamestown and Plymouth- Discovering America

As a class we will be working together to answer the following questions pertaining to the discovery of America:

What are reasons why people explore and settle new lands?

What were the differences in reasons why Columbus, the people of Jamestown, and Pilgrims explored or settled new lands?
What were the impacts of European exploration and settlement, with specific key dates in history to support?
What challenges did early settlers face when traveling/navigating on the open ocean?

What are the challenges in establishing and maintaining a society?

What were the similarities/differences in governmental structure between Jamestown and Plymouth?
How did environment and weather affect the Virginia Colony and Plymouth?
How would the relationships between Native peoples and European settlers be described? Why?
