The Essential 55- Being a Good Human
Happy Monday, Everyone!

I'm sure many of you have heard about (or seen) our 'Good Human' Rules in the hallway! These "rules" are based off of Ron Clark's The Essential 55, a book that promotes respect for self focuses on helping parents and teachers support kindness and accountability in the classroom. hey promote respect for self and others, and help foster a mature and responsible way of living in the world. It;s a very interesting read if anyone is wants to check it out!
These "rules" are aimed at reinforcing Yorkville's mission statement of Cultivating learners who apply skills and experiences to enrich society, Grande Reserve's hallway and assembly expectations, as well as the social-emotional skills being taught in Second STEP. In our classroom we have been talking about and discussing each of the rules and how we can apply them in our everyday lives.
I really truly believe that everyone is a great human, but it helps to give reminders throughout the day. So far we have already seen a change in our classroom environment and the way students are interacting with one another!
These rules are in no way created to 'shame' students and make them feel discouraged, but rather to help them become aware of and reflect on their actions and to support skills they are already being taught at home. We truly feel that these are important life skills to help students become well rounded humans!
Have a great rest of your day!
