Wow, I am so shocked how quick quarter one has gone! We have had a blast this quarter getting to know each other and doing some fun things!

Here is a recap of quarter one and things to be on the lookout for in the future!

General Information:

  • Next Monday we will be gaining two new students. This is the max amount of students we can have in our room to maintain the 6 foot distance between everyone. All guidelines are still intact and our room is cleaned heavily each night. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

  • Parent- Teacher Conference sign ups were sent out last Friday in Mrs. Breyne’s newsletter. In case you missed it, here is the link again. If you can not make any of these dates or times please let me know and we can reschedule for another day.

  • We are close to finishing our quarter one AR goals. There are only a few students who need to finish their goals. Ask your child if they have reached their goal!

  • Scholastic book order forms are sent out each month. If you wish to purchase books for your students either send the order form to school or order online. Our class code is P7R7M. Every purchase though scholastic earns our classroom free books. **Want to order books for Christmas? Let me know and it will be our secret!**

Writing:

  • We are just finishing up our personal narratives this week. Students have worked with me one-on-one, with peer editors AND have or will be receiving an editing video from me to help improve their writing. In addition, students always can use an extra pair of eyes to help them edit their story. Ask to read it and look at the rubric before they turn it in!

Math:

  • Two weeks ago we had some "guest teachers" teach adding and subtracting with a 100's grid. Nolan and Cohen did an EXCELLENT job. So did their students!

  • We are finishing up our second unit- adding and subtracting decimals. If you wish to review with your child, here are some fun games you can print and play at home before their test!

  • Our next unit involves multiplication and division of whole numbers and decimals. This is often a difficult unit for students who do not know their math facts. Please continue to practice these at home to help with this unit.

ELA:

  • Students will be receiving their new WOV words Monday. As a reminder, students have two weeks to complete their contract and study their words. We have had multiple discussions about not leaving their work till the last minute- there is a reason they have two weeks to learn these words!

  • For our novel study books we will be creating life-sized scarecrow characters! We will be working with our art teacher, Mrs. Moss, to bring these characters to life. In order to do this we will need things to 'stuff' our scarecrows (ex. newspapers, ad papers, bubble wrap, straw, etc.) Students will also be needing clothing, wigs and accessories. All items used will be returned. Feel free to use what you have at home or go to the local goodwill to gather what you need. Ask your child about what character they have chosen!

  • Continue to encourage your child to read at home!

Science:

  • Our Shedd Aquarium virtual fieldtrip was a blast! We got up close and personal with the penguins- something most people can not say they have experienced.

  • We are on the home stretch with our Zoo projects! Everyone knows they should be working at home on their project, so ask what they are doing each night to help their group. Once they are completed, we will be sharing them with families. Be on the lookout for it!

Stay safe out there!
